Sleep breathing/neurological sleep disorders
Sleep-Disordered Breathing and Neurological Sleep Disorders
PART I
Information items
01Institutional capabilities and essential infrastructure
Specialized personnel in neurology, pulmonology, ENT, mental health, pediatrics, and dental/oral-maxillofacial, with certified PSG interpretation, are required. Video PSG, EEG/EOG/EMG, respiration/oxygen/ECG, MSLT/MWT, PAP titration and remote adherence, DISE, upper airway/maxillofacial evaluation, oral appliances, surgery room, cognitive behavioral/drug therapy, iron metabolism assessment, and emergency/severe cardiopulmonary consultation are provided.
02System capabilities and collaborative-care structure
Sleep diaries, medications/work history/comorbidities, and screening for sleepiness/insomnia/risk behaviors are used to perform appropriate PSG/MSLT. Respiratory events, sleep stages, arousals, oxygen, arrhythmias, electromyography, and video are integrated for interpretation to differentiate OSA, central hypersomnia, RBD, and epilepsy. Post-treatment monitoring tracks PAP use, residual AHI/sleepiness, drug side effects, surgical/oral appliance effects, RBD damage, and neurological signs over the long term.
03Recognition unit
We do not recognize centers for simply consulting on snoring or having testing facilities. We recognize sleep centers/sleep disorder programs that provide overnight PSG and MSLT/video interpretation, differential diagnosis of sleep-disordered breathing and neuro-sleep disorders, and multidisciplinary selection and long-term outcome management of PAP adherence, medication/behavior, oral devices, and surgery.
04Evidence and verification criteria
Prioritize AASM guidelines for OSA diagnosis and PAP, central hypersomnia, RBD, and official hospital centers, testing, and medical staff data. Evaluate PSG adequacy, AHI/ODI, oxygen burden, MSLT latency/SOREMP, PAP prescription–90-day/long-term use and residual AHI, sleepiness/driving accidents, blood pressure/QOL, responses to surgery/oral devices, RBD injury, neuroconversion, and drug safety.
05Currency status
Source currency has been confirmed; official verification is in progress.
06SEO and AI search architecture

Detailed information item
01Definition of specialist medical care and domestic and international clinical statistics (Definition & Epidemiological Context)
Sleep breathing · neuro sleep specialty care is a field that distinguishes and treats airway and breathing during sleep and abnormal brain sleep–wake, movement, and behavior using biological signals and video. AASM estimates that about 30 million adults in the United States have OSA and recommends PAP along with education and follow-up after objective diagnosis. RBD is estimated to affect more than 80 million people worldwide, and injury prevention and neurodegeneration risk counseling are important.
02Patient problem and clinical entry point (Patient Problem Layer)
Severe snoring·observed apnea/asphyxia, morning headache·hypoxia·treatment-resistant hypertension, difficulty staying awake even after enough sleep·cataplexy, acting out dreams causing injury, restless legs/movement at night, nocturnal convulsions·abnormal behaviors are the entry points. Drowsy driving·severe hypoxia/cardiopulmonary disease, significant injury during sleep require urgent examination and safety measures.
03Precision Diagnostics and Functional Evaluation System (Diagnostics & Functional Evaluation)
Sleep diary · ESS/STOP-Bang · Medication/work · Mood and upper airway · BMI · Cardiopulmonary/neuro examination are performed. EEG/EOG/jaw and leg EMG, respiration, oxygen, ECG, and behavior are recorded using video PSG, and PAP titration, MSLT/MWT, actigraphy, iron metabolism, HLA/CSF hypocretin, DISE/imaging · oral maxillofacial evaluation, and video EEG are selected if necessary.
04Treatment Methods and Timeline-based Care Pathway
Step 1: Risk screening and sleep recording → classify drowsiness, breathing, behavior/movement, and cardiopulmonary/neuro risks.
Phase 2: PSG·MSLT/structural evaluation → differentiate OSA, hypersomnia, RBD, and epilepsy using objective signals.
Stage 3: Customized treatment → Apply PAP·weight/posture, oral device/surgery, medications·naps/CBT-I·safe environment.
Stage 4: Long-term follow-up → Manage PAP, residual AHI/sleepiness, drug/surgical effects, accidents, and RBD neurological signs.
